Threading New Grounds: The FABRIC Fashion Crusade

Have you noticed how fashion show parties are happening left and right nowadays
in almost all hip bars and clubs in the metro?

You must have been invited to a lot
attended some and actually enjoyed a few.

But you’ve never really experienced one unless you have gone to a FABRIC event.

FABRIC is the brainchild of DJ Jermaine Brown who used to work the club scene in Toronto before coming back to Manila. Inspired by the parties thrown by DJs to promote designers during Toronto Fashion Week, he thought of bringing the same kind of fashion shows-cum-parties to the local scene. Hooking up with Lifestyle and Events Promoter Cacay Moras during the early months of 2007 gave birth to what FABRIC is now really known for – the “It” event for any fashion designer to launch and be launched.

The first ever FABRIC fashion show was way back May 2007 at Piedra featuring the swim wear and resort collection of Twinkle Ferraren. Piedra was a great place but it was not really drawing enough public attention. It was only when FABRIC partnered with Embassy Fly, undeniably the metro’s most popular and No.1 club that its events pushed into mainstream consciousness. Over the last two years, FABRIC has worked with the likes of Kate Torralba, Happy Andrada, Eric delos Santos, Salsa Trends, Brian Tenorio and a lot of other designers, who are a mix of seasoned and new, young and old, all wanting to share and bring to the world their ideas and creations.

The dynamic duo, Jermaine and Cacay, run a two-man show. Jermaine not only keeps the crowd rocking with his house music during the shows but does the graphic artworks of FABRIC and directs the rehearsals as well. Cacay, on the other hand, handles the show logistics (she swears to carrying the bar chairs when there’s little help around) and event promotions. Very hands-on with their work, this tag team eventually wants to see the Filipino brands and designers who started with FABRIC make it globally. Because as they said (to which we yell back, “Cheers!”), “FABRIC is more than just an event. It is a tool, an opportunity for the local fashion industry to prosper by having designers showcase and bring their works closer to the public.”

So to all you fashionistas, trend spotters and party people who have never been to a FABRIC event, do not miss the next show!

FABRIC is sponsored by Basement Salon & Academy, Freixenet Cavas & Wine, Make Up Forever, Rogue Magazine, School of Fashion & the Arts (SoFA), Strip - The Ministry of Waxing and StyleBible.ph. Official event photographers are Julles Roberto, Konrad Ong, Joey Server and Loel Lamela.

CODE-LIMITED.COM would like to thank FABRIC for doing the Pre-Launch Show last January 22, 2009.
